Backlund Haematoma Evacuator Kit is designed for use with Leksell Stereotactic System® or Leksell® Vantage™ Stereotactic System.
The stop and guide inserts are made of plastic material. The water/airtight seal is constructed from rubber/teflon. All other parts are made of stainless steel.
The principle of this instrument is identical with that of the ancient water screw the ingenious conception of which is ascribed to Archimedes. A 20 cm long screw drill is enclosed with a cannula, 4 mm in outer diameter. Close to the tip of the cannula there are two small openings. At the instrument's upper part there is a branching tube for suction. Through a water/airtight seal at the top, the screw can be rotated from outside while maintaining a vacuum.
The distal opening of the instrument is stereotactically placed at the center of the haematoma.
